The University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute has received forty uniquely decorated hats for chemotherapy patients from the Women’s Missionary Association of Harmony Baptist Church in Semmes.
The group decorated the hats in honor of one of its members, USAMCI patient Beverly Mizell. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer and lost her hair during her chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
“This is my church family,” said Mizell, who was the first to receive chemotherapy treatment in the new USAMCI building in 2008.
Troy Bland, a USAMCI clinical research nurse and pastor at Harmony Baptist, said Mizell has been an inspiration to the church congregation.
“She always wears a hat, and the ladies wanted to do something in honor of her,” he said. “Each one individually gave their heart to the design.” |
