The Mission:
To actively involve high potential minority students in science learning, research training,
healthcare awareness; to promote research; and to create support systems for minority
students in college that facilitate retention and graduation.
Learning Objectives and Curriculum:
The program includes two six-week academic enrichment sessions over two consecutive summers
and a six-week internship in a health care provision site or medical research facility during
the third summer. Two series of Saturday Academies are offered during the school year and
afternoon tutorial programs are also provided.
The objective of the first two summer sessions is to reinforce the necessary academic skills
for students to succeed in their college education. The objective of the Saturday Academies
and the on-going tutoring program is to insure that minority students who enter Phase I and II
of the program will remain motivated and eligible over the academic year to return for the
remaining program phases. The objective of Phase III is to expose students to practical
experience in health care provision or medical research to peak their interest.
