Summer Undergraduate Research Program

surpThe Center of Excellence's Summer Undergraduate Research Program is a full 10 week academic program offered on a competitive basis to undergraduate college students who are interested in a career in biomedical research or in areas of health disparities. The program is geared towards individuals who have the intention of furthering themselves in a graduate education program upon the completion of their college education. Students selected into the program will receive a stipend for full-time research in a laboratory or department focusing on topics such as lung biology, health disparities in the communities or other disease areas of interest.

Students will gain experience in using state of the art research methods, participating in laboratory discussions and meetings, networking with other faculty and fellows, and can potentially coauthor a publication based on their research work.

surpCurrent research participants have come from all over the state from schools including Auburn Montgomery, Spring Hill College, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Bishop State Community College to develop research in departments such as: USA Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, the Center of Lung Biology, the Obesity Clinic in the USA Healthy Life Center, and environmental health at the Bay Area Women's Coalition.
