NRHH Announces January OTM Winners
POSTED ON THURS, 02/23/2014 - 2:20PM

USA's National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is pleased to recognize our January 2014 Of The Month (OTM) winners! We had some stiff competition last month resulting in a two-way tie for the OTM category of Resident Assistant. And the winners are:

STUDENT OF THE MONTH: Dennis Mersereau
Dennis Mersereau lives in the Delta Community and has been described as "kind and helpful" to many who live in his community. Dennis currently serves on the Housing & Dining Advisory Committee, which meets monthly during Fall & Spring semesters. Residence Life staff members said he deserves this award because he has been an "exemplary" resident and student.

RESIDENT ASSISTANT OF THE MONTH: Kashawn Sinkler
As a Resident Assistant, Kashawn Sinkler has always gone above and beyond what was asked of him. Sinkler was nominated as many felt he possessed a strong sense of accountability and endearment, surpassing the highest expectations of many. As a student, Meteorology Club president, and RA, Sinkler leaves no task undone. He deeply cares about his residents and demonstrated their priority by the numerous hours he commits to his programming efforts.

RESIDENT ASSISTANT OF THE MONTH: Dallas Lee Gibbons Dallas is being recognized for her constant assistance and genuine concern for her residents. Gibbons "made it known to all the residents that she wanted them to feel welcomed and at home while living in Stokes [Hall]." Gibbons continues to assist residents with their transition and success with college life. She is a "very kind, organized, and helpful RA."

Please congratulate these winners as you see them! Know a group, program, or individual who deserves recognition for a job well done? Nominate them for an “Of the Month Award"! STUDENT OF THE MONTH: Makenzie Uganski
Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "It's not everyday that you have a resident like Makenzie. She is truly an amazing person. She abides by housing policy and ensures that others around the Delta community are doing the same. In an effort to launch our "Go Green, Keep Delta Clean" project, Makenzie was more than eager to be a part of the project. In November of 2013, Makenzie, myself, and 5 other residents walked around the Delta community, collecting recyclables and picking up trash. Throughout the entire event, she kept a smile on her face and loved being a part of our community. She is motivated to be successful and I've witnessed her encourage her friends in times of difficulty. She is an amazing and outstanding resident and friend. She has the potential to do many things in her life, and I hope one day I am around to witness it. I am one hundred percent positive that she will do anything for the better of the community. She is one of hardest working people I know, and I'm glad to have her as my resident."

FIRST-YEAR STUDENT OF THE MONTH: Angela McGaugh
Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Angela has been very proactive in not only her academics but also organizations she is in. In particular, Angela is very involved in First Year Council. She is very adamant about helping lead an initiative for recycling on campus in the residence halls. Angela in February met with Housing staff to discuss the initiative for recycling and also how to go about implementing it through the feedback she receives. She also met with the University Sustainability Council and the Student Sustainability Council. Angela is so passionate about this project and will surely see it through. She deserves recognition for her hard work thus far on getting recycling bins in our residence halls at USA!"

RESIDENT ASSISTANT OF THE MONTH: Monica Jeanfreau
Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Monica has been a mentor since our RA training session in August 2013. If there is any person I know that cares about their residents, it is Monica! She loves her job and takes her role as a Resident Assistant VERY seriously. She always keeps a smile on her face and a positive attitude around the community. A thing that stuck out the most about Monica was the amount of time and effort she puts into her programming. For instance, when it was 'Resident Appreciation Month', Monica went above and beyond to make sure that her residents felt welcome and at home. She's an asset to the Delta Community. She's always available to help others when they need it and she never fails at doing the right thing. She is truly a great individual and a fantastic RA. I couldn't imagine a better RA this year than her. She works hard for what she does and it is clearly shown by the satisfactory level of her residents. I'm blessed to have had Monica assist me and help me grow as a RA. She has been a tremendous help for myself and the Delta community. "Monica is a senior who already has a lot on her plate, but she manages that along side being Assistant Community Director and an even better Resident Assistant to the residents on the front side (facing Greek Row) of Delta 5."

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER OF THE MONTH: Braxton Orso
Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Since the beginning of Braxton's time as the Associate Director for the Residence Hall Association, he has displayed great ability to lead and work as a team. Braxton is always available when needed, and is quick to volunteer. He is not only interested in his own development, but the development of RHA and the Housing department as well. Not only is Braxton making strides within H&RL, but also across the campus and across the state. Recently attending a state conference with RHA, Braxton made himself known in a positive way and stepped up as a leader on the state board."

STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH: Tyrone Davis
Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: Although the whole maintenance staff is excellent, Mr. Tyrone deserves to be recognized. He always has the biggest smile on his face, and it spreads joy through the housing community. He deserves to be recognized for always going above and beyond for residents, no matter the task, as well as his hard work and dedication. "His spirit really holds housing together."

NRHH Announces March OTM Winners
POSTED ON MON, 04/7/2014 - 2:35PM

Mobile, AL - USA's National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is pleased to recognize our March 2014 Of The Month (OTM) winners (below)! This past Friday afternoon, NRHH members voted unanimously for the March OTM awards. Please congratulate these winners as you see them!

STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH: Brenda Wilson
Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Brenda really is excellent. The Housing Maintenance Call Center could not function without her. She is always talking with students, doing paperwork, helping out the mechanics and custodians, and managing the work order system. If anyone in the department needs anything, they always know to come to her. She will make sure to complete everything to the highest standard possible and in a timely manner. Brenda is someone you can rely on at work and even outside of work." "Mrs. Brenda is a wonderful part of the housing and maintenance team. She is the one who is in contact with the students about any maintenance issue that happen. She goes above and beyond to help the residents, and also the mechanics and custodians. If it weren't for her, maintenance wouldn't be as great as it is. She is a wonderful leader and a great person inside and out."

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: Pamela Howard
Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Ms. Pam is one of the most helpful people at South. She is the secretary of the Honors program; yet, she goes above and beyond her call of duty. She is the person who if a student needs anything you call "Ms. Pam". She fixes our schedules, advises us, connects us with others, and so much more. However, her greatest contribution is that she becomes our mom. She asks how we are feeling, and always offers words of encouragement. She breaks the job barrier and gets to know students on a personal level. Ms. Pam is an amazing individual and she has contributed so much to the university. That is why Ms. Pam deserves some spotlight for all the amazing things she does for the Honors program, its students, and the South Alabama community. Thank You Ms. Pam!"

Know a group, program, or individual who deserves recognition for a job well done? Nominate them for an “Of the Month Award"! Nominations for the month of April are due by May 3rd @ 11:59PM. Nominations may now be SUBMITTED ONLINE by visiting our Recognition page.

USA NRHH Announces April OTM Winners
POSTED ON TUES, 06/10/2014 - 10:05AM

Mobile, AL - USA's National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is pleased to recognize our April 2014 Of The Month (OTM) winners (below)! While we are late in sharing this recognition, this group is notable as they are the last OTM winners from the 2013-2014 academic year. Please congratulate these winners as you see them!

Student of the Month
Tommie Owens - Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Tommie goes out of his way to help others, meet new people, and talk to everyone. Although he has been in a wheelchair due to recent medical complications, he has not complained about having to get around campus and still goes out of his way to make others happy with his sweet personality and smile. He has assisted with several campus activities such as the Sustainability Council's Adopt-a-Spot and many residential hall activities. He represents the qualities of a South Alabama Jaguar by always trying to be involved and making everyone feel welcome. He never has anything bad to say about anyone and always compliments others. I feel like he really deserves recognition for all he does."

Spotlight of the Month
Trenton Howard - Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Mr. Trent is is one of the chief supervisors at the Fresh Food Company. Mr. Trent is an outstanding person because he goes above and beyond his job requirements. Mr. Trent goes out of his way to make sure everyone that goes to the dining hall has a good experience. If there is ever a problem, you can tell Mr. Trent knowing that the problem will be resolved as soon as possible. Mr. Trent is the type of person who enforces all the rules but still understands how to be friendly and respectful while doing so. Mr. Trent always has a smile on his face and he loves his job."

Resident Assistant Of The Month
Kenneth Jones - Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Kenneth "Kenny" Jones is an outstanding Resident Assistant. Kenny has sacrificed many hours to put in extra work for his residents and his community. Kenny has been a great asset to the New Hall community! Kenny goes above and beyond to know each of his residents as well as other residents of surrounding communities. Kenny has put on some outstanding programs this year. However, there was a time when Kenny was faced to collaborate on a program with another RA, who was very difficult to work with. I remember Kenny sharing insight with me on the situation and how he persevered through the situation because it was for the good of the residents. I do believe Kenny should be recognized for his overachieving efforts and awesome character! :-)"

Staff Member Of The Month
Rosemarie Gibbs (from the Caf) - Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Ms. Rose is the sweetest woman! She greets everyone with a smile as they walk in, and instead of quickly getting students through the line with no words spoken, she takes her time and asks every student how he or she is doing. It's so evident that she truly cares about the students she serves. Her sweet smile and kind words are such an encouragement during stressful times of the semester. Thank you for being you, Ms. Rose!"

Executive Board Member Of The Month
Shamar Burch - Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "Shamar is one of the most energetic, hard-working, and welcoming people I have ever met! You only have to know him for a few minutes to know that you've got a friend in him. He is an Executive Board Member for RHA and NRHH, and he displays such a love for our campus and a desire to see it improve. Thank you so much for being awesome, Shamar!"

Organization Of The Month
Baptist Campus Ministries - Here are some of the great things said about this OTM winner: "The Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) have such an encouraging impact on our campus. The BCM hosts many events that range from Bible studies, game nights, a campus Easter egg hunt, waffle and/or coffee days, tacky formals, and literal hang-outs in enos all around campus, and the best part is that all of these things are open to the public and free for anyone! Earlier in the month, the BCM hosted a campus-wide blood drive, where they exceeded LifeSouth's expectations with the number of donors! The BCM also helps mold students into leaders through leadership programs, service opportunities, and mission trips. The BCM is a very influential campus organization that helps students get involved."

Know a group, program, or individual who deserves recognition for a job well done? Nominate them for an “Of the Month Award"! PLEASE NOTE: Awards are put on hold throughout the summer semester. The next deadline for nominations will be September 3rd @ 11:59PM (for August OTM Recognition). SUBMIT your nomination ONLINE by visiting our Recognition page.
