At the University of South Alabama, residence halls are more than just a place to sleep. Living in the residence halls is an integral part of the campus experience and provides you with a lifestyle designed to compliment and encourage your academic success. Residence hall living provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get to know students who come from a variety of different backgrounds, cultures, religions, regions of the U.S., as well as, other parts of the world. This advantageous situation cannot be duplicated in any other living arrangement. Living in the residence halls, meeting people like yourself and others who are very different, often result in lifelong friendships and have a profound impact on our students’ views of the world, helping prepare them for the life in the global society of the future. Residence halls offer a collegiate community with a student-friendly lifestyle.

• Roommate Relationships
  One of the exciting things about living on campus is meeting new people - especially your roommate. Sharing a residence hall apartment or suite with another student or students can be the start of lifelong friendships. Living in a residence hall with neighbors and new friends gives students a "comfort zone" where they know they belong and are supported in their college goals. Living in a residence hall community provides the opportunity to learn to respect values, ideas, and views held by others. Respect, consideration, and communication are the basic elements of a good roommate relationship.
• Independence
  Going away to college or even just going a few miles down the road is a growth experience for students - and a part of that growth is becoming more independent from their parents. College freshmen: get themselves up for class, decide what their eating habits will be, wash their own clothes, and clean their own room.
• Diversity
  Residence hall living offers students the chance to meet students from various, backgrounds, cultures, regions, and religions. South Alabama is committed to diversity and promotes an environment where all people are valued and appreciated. South Alabama students represent all 50 states and over one hundred countries. Rooms and roommate assignments are made without regard to race, creed, religion, or sexual orientation.
