Transfer Credits
USA Students

Students transferring to the University from foreign post-secondary institutions must submit a detailed course syllabus from which to evaluate transfer credit. Advanced Placement credit is available from a number of worldwide sources; contact the Office of International Services for details. A student may secure a professional evaluation of academic credentials at his/her own expense. Course-by-course professional evaluation is required of transfer students accepted into the College of Education and students applying to the professional component of any program in the College of Allied Health Professions.

Your transcripts will be evaluated quickly, right on campus. We are already familiar with most of the educational systems of the world, and many of the institutions from which we receive international students are entered onto an automated evaluation system. You will receive prompt service for your transfer credit evaluation.

Medical Insurance $     650 USD

TOTAL:  $24,593 USD*

* Estimated Annual cost of attendance at USA effective Fall Semester, 2010.
All amounts listed in U.S. Dollars.

These amounts are subject to change without notice.

Students who will be accompanied by a dependent will need, in addition to the above, $5,000 in funds for the first dependent and $3,000 for each additional dependent.

All international students with non-immigrant visas are considered non-residents for tuition purposes. They will be assessed a non-resident fee and an international student fee each term. Permanent residents with more than one year in that status are charged the international student fee but may qualify for in-state tuition rates.

You will find that ours are some of the lowest non-resident fees in the United States. Please compare them with other institutions.

An advance tuition and living expenses deposit may be required of a student before an I-20 or DS-2019 is issued. This decision is based upon exchange regulations and fee receipt history of specific countries. Campus Housing Click here for additional information on Campus Housing.

Dorm costs for on-campus housing will range from $1,120 to $2,133. Off-campus housing is available in the vicinity of the campus within walking distance.

The accommodations around campus are nearly always at full occupancy. Students are responsible for finding their own off-campus accommodations, and should arrive several days prior to orientation to locate housing. You may get additional information from the Council of International Students Organizations.

Click here or on graphic for additional on-campus housing information. Medical Insurance

The University requires all international students on non-immigrant visas to purchase University of South Alabama's medical insurance coverage for themselves and any dependents.

We are aware that the medical services here in the United States are different from those most of you are accustomed to. Therefore, the University of South Alabama offers a service that few, if any, other institutions provide in terms of health insurance.

We have experienced staff who assist you in filing your insurance claim forms and help you to better understand the procedure. We process all insurance claims for the international students.

USA is one of the only Universities in the United States that submits insurance claims for the students--just give us the bills!

New international students are required to participate in an orientation program prior to their first semester at the University

The program provides information concerning:

  • services available
  • adjustment to the academic, social and cultural environment
  • immigration matters
  • local sights and activities
  • student organizations
  • health insurance
  • safety and security provisions
  • academic programs and advising
  • step-by-step instructions on how to register for classes
Registration

Registration--making course selections and enrolling in classes--occurs prior to the beginning of each term.

ALL students will be using the new system called PAWS for their registration.

PAWS is USA's new Personal Access Web System.

PAWS is a web accessible, dynamic, and interactive computer system that provides services to students, faculty, and staff of USA based on their relationship to the University.

Important changes and messages will be posted to this site weekly. Check this site often!

Registration is not complete until all fees have been paid and all admissions documents and examinations finished. Failure to satisfy any admission or registration requirements is sufficient cause for dropping a student from all his classes.

International students are required to maintain full-time status while enrolled at U.S. institutions of higher learning. USA requires a minimum of 12 semester hours (Undergraduate) enrollment to be classified as a full-time student.
