General Information

Introduction

The Intramural Program and its staff would like to offer you the opportunity to enhance your college experience outside of the traditional classroom by providing you the chance to participate in the fun and excitement of intramural competition. Intramural sports offer both an outlet for those who would prefer the arena of serious competition and for those who would rather unwind in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Our "classroom" teaches lessons involving character, emotion, competition, humility, and adversity. All these important life lessons are learned in the intramural classroom. How you choose to handle jubilation and disappointment, achievement and failure, winning and losing, will be as important to your personal growth and development as anything else you will experience while at the University. The classroom will develop your mind; the lessons learned outside the classroom will develop your character. In the Intramural Program, your total development is our goal, and in helping to achieve this goal, we will provide the fun and excitement. Who said college has to be boring? Get in the game!

Teams and individual competition will take place in the following divisions:

Awards

Awards for active participation and success should not be the only goal of an intramural program, but such awards can add to the competitive spirit of the activity. It is with this in mind that the Intramural Program will offer awards to the All-University Champions in each sport. In addition, an All-University Championship Trophy will be awarded to the organization within each division that accumulates the most intramural points through the season. The season for the Fraternity and Sorority Leagues will begin with all sports played after Spring Break and end the following season with all sports played up until Spring Break. The Independent and Co-Rec Leagues will accumulate points during the traditional school year.

Sportsmanship

A part of the philosophy of the Intramural Program is that good sportsmanship is very important to the conduct of every intramural contest. In order to encourage proper conduct during intramural competition, game officials, supervisors and administrative personnel shall make decisions to warn, penalize, or eject players/teams/fans for unsportsmanlike behavior.

Officials have the authority to remove, without warning, any player from an activity who is playing in a dangerous manner or who is demonstrating unsportsmanlike behavior. That player may also receive additional penalties which could include expulsion for the Intramural Program for a year. Anyone suspended from the Intramural Program will not be allowed to participate or spectate in any aspect of the program until the suspension is lifted. These decisions will be final and without game time appeal. The Coordinator of Intramural Activities will rule on any further penalties to be prescribed as a result of:

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Profanity
  • Unnecessary delay of game
  • Striking, shoving or threatening an opponent
  • Striking, shoving or threatening an official
  • Any action with the intent to injure an opponent
  • Any action deemed unsportsmanlike or that makes a travesty of the game
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct can result in warnings, suspensions, or expulsions.
  • While on suspension, a player cannot participate or spectate in any aspect of the recreation program including Rec. center privileges.
  • Threatening an official will always mandate an automatic suspension for the remainder of the year.
  • Cursing will not be tolerated in our intramural program.
  • Smoking and alcohol is prohibited during intramural events and on intramural grounds.
