    The University of South Alabama has been involved in Shotokan Karate for over 40 years. South Alabama Shotokan is a member of the All South Karate Federation and the Japan Karate Association.

    Mr. Takayuki Mikami (Hachidan-8th degree) has served as the technical director for the program since that time.  The program has produced over seventy-five first degree black belts (Shodan), a dozen have reached second degree(Nidan), and three are third degree(Sandan).
