Textbook: Calculus (5th Edition), by Stewart (Thomson Brooks/Cole 2003). We will cover most of chapters 15-17.
Optional: How to Ace the Rest of Calculus, by Adams, Hass and Thompson.

Grading: Grades will be determined according to the following:

Homework/Quizzes -- 15%
Three Tests -- 20% each
Final Exam -- 25%

Exams: There will be three tests. Tentative dates are Thursday, September 15; Thursday, October 13; and Thursday, November 10.

Homework/Quizzes: Homework will be collected every class day, on Tuesday and Thursday. Homework is due at the beginning of class. Late homework will not be accepted. There may be sporadic quizzes in class over the term.

Attendence: Routine attendance in class is essential and expected.

Important Dates: Through Friday, September 2 you may drop the class with a 100% refund and no record of any grade. Through Friday, September 30 you may drop the class and receive an automatic grade of W. Through Friday, October 28 you may drop the class and receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Through Friday, December 9 you may drop the class only with permission from the dean, and then receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Avoidance of a low grade is not sufficient reason to obtain permission to withdraw after September 30.

Calculators: This is a course in mathematical concepts and techniques, not a course in mechanical computation. As such, calculators are neither necessary nor allowed for any exams.

Resources: If you have any questions or problems, you are encouraged to come by my office during office hours, or make an appointment to come by some other time. Email is the best way to contact me.
