Course Webpage: math.ou.edu/~jbarnard/F06-2433/ Textbook: Calculus (fifth edition), by Stewart (Thomson, Brooks/Cole 2003). We will cover most chapters 11-14. Announcements and Handouts: The main course page has an announcement section and a handout section. Both of these should be checked regularly, and you are responsible for any information found there.
Grading: Grades will be determined according to the following: Two Quizzes -- 20% Two Tests -- 40% Final Exam -- 25%
Homework: Homework will be due at the start of class. You are responsible for ensuring that your homework gets turned in on time. Late homework will not be accepted. They upset the grading process and are unfair to the other students. Quizzes: There will be two in-class quizzes, Thursday, September 14, and Tuesday, October 31. These will be 20-25 minute mini-tests. We will spend the remainder of the class going over the quiz. Tests: There will be two in-class tests, Thursday, October 5, and Tuesday, November 21. This latter date is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Make your travel plans accordingly. Final Exam: The final exam is cumulative. It is scheduled for Monday, December 11 (for section 006) and Wednesday, December 13 (for section 005). Both exams are 8am-10am in the usual classroom. Attendance: Routine attendance in class is essential and expected. The homework page gives a rough indication of what topics we hope to cover on specific days. As in any course, you should try to read the relevant sections of the textbook before attending lectures. Important Dates: Through Friday, September 1, you may drop the class with a 100% refund and no record of any grade. Through Friday, September 29, you may drop the class and receive an automatic grade of W. Through Friday, October 27, you may drop the class and receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Through Friday, December 8, you may drop the class only with permission from the dean, and then receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Avoidance of a low grade is not sufficient reason to obtain permission to withdraw after September 29. Calculators: Calculators will be neither allowed nor necessary for the tests, quizzes, or homework. Office Hours: If you have any questions or problems, you are encouraged to come by my office during office hours, or make an appointment to come by some other time. Email is the best way to contact me. If you plan on coming during office hours, you need not notify me ahead of time. Office hours are public hours, so you should expect that there may be other students there also. Student Disabilities: The University of Oklahoma is committed to providing reasonable accommodation for all students with disabilities. Students with disabilities who require accommodations in this course are requested to speak with me as early in the semester as possible. Students with disabilities must be registered with the Office of Disability Services prior to receiving accommodations in this course. The Office of Disability Services is located in Goddard Health Center, Suite 166, phone 405/325-3852 or TDD only 405/325-4173. Academic Misconduct: Procedures for dealing with cases of academic misconduct have changed as of Fall 2004. Students are assumed to be familiar with the current Academic Misconduct Code, details of which may be found at www.ou.edu/provost/integrity. |
