Textbook: Calculus (5th Edition), by Stewart (Thomson Brooks/Cole 2003). We will cover most of chapters 15-17.
Recommended optional supplementary text: How to Ace the Rest of Calculus, by Adams, Hass and Thompson.

Announcements: The main course page has a section called announcements. I will post there any changes to the information contained in this document (e.g., test dates, grading policy, etc.). Also posted there will be links to any additional documents I have created for this class. These include informational handouts, graphical aids, test review information, test solutions, and aggregate test results. You are responsible for any information contained in these announcements, and you should check this page regularly.

Grading: Grades will be determined according to the following:

Homework/Quizzes -- 15%
Three Tests -- 20% each
Final Exam -- 25%

Exams: There will be three tests. Tentative dates are Tuesday, February 14; Thursday, March 9; and Thursday, April 20. The final exam is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9.

Homework/Quizzes: Homework will be assigned each day. Homework is not to be turned in. Solutions will be posted online at the end of each week. We will have a pre-announced in-class quiz roughly once a week. Each quiz will be very similar to the homework immediately preceding it. You should make every effort to start the homework as soon as possible after it is assigned, and make use of office hours to get help on difficult homework or concepts from the course. A small number of problems in each assignment will be designated as fundamental. Proficiency in these problems is absolutely necessary, but not necessarily sufficient, for a passing understanding of the material in the corresponding section.

Attendence: Routine attendance in class is essential and expected.

Important Dates: Through Monday, January 30 you may drop the class with a 100% refund and no record of any grade. Through Friday, February 24 you may drop the class and receive an automatic grade of W. Through Friday, March 31 you may drop the class and receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Through Friday, May 5 you may drop the class only with permission from the dean, and then receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Avoidance of a low grade is not sufficient reason to obtain permission to withdraw after February 24.

Calculators: Calculators will be neither allowed nor necessary for the tests or quizzes. They may be useful, although not necessary, for the homework.

Other Resources: On the homework page, you will often find links to outside resources. Many of these are provided by your textbook publisher (and paid for, in part, by your purchase of the book). Most contain compacted discussions of the material covered in the textbook. Some contain graphics, often animated. As with many math classes, it is important to understand the concepts we will cover both computationally and geometrically. This course is primarily about calculus in three dimensions, and visualization of objects in three-dimensions can be difficult. I will also occasionally post ``handouts'' as announcements on the main course page. Some of these may also contain helpful graphics and/or animations.

Office Hours: If you have any questions or problems, you are encouraged to come by my office during office hours, or make an appointment to come by some other time. Email is the best way to contact me. If you plan on coming during office hours, you need not notify me ahead of time. Office hours are public hours, so you should expect that there may be other students there also.

Student Disabilities: The University of Oklahoma is committed to providing reasonable accommodation for all students with disabilities. Students with disabilities who require accommodations in this course are requested to speak with me as early in the semester as possible. Students with disabilities must be registered with the Office of Disability Services prior to receiving accommodations in this course. The Office of Disability Services is located in Goddard Health Center, Suite 166, phone 405/325-3852 or TDD only 405/325-4173.

Academic Misconduct: Procedures for dealing with cases of academic misconduct have changed as of Fall 2004. Students are assumed to be familiar with the current Academic Misconduct Code, details of which may be found at www.ou.edu/provost/integrity.
