May 2: Thursday's class is canceled. The final exam is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, 8:00-10:00 in the usual classroom. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Office hours from now until the final are as follows: Wed. May 3: 9:00-11:00 Mon. May 8: 9:00-3:15 Apr. 25: Test 3 results are in. Apr. 4: Class on Thursday will be taught by Prof. Nikola Petrov. Office hours for the rest of this week are cancelled. The quizzes for this Thursday and next Tuesday are both cancelled. There will instead be a quiz Thursday, April 13. Mar. 23: Test 2 results are in. Feb. 22: Test 1 results are in. Jan. 26: Here are some pictures and discussion of a continuous surface with discontinuous first partials. Jan. 26: Office Hours are now set at Mon/Wed 1:15-2:00, and Tues/Thurs 10:15-11:00. These hours are slightly different from what was originally suggested in class. If these hours are inconvenient, just email me or talk to me about some other time we can meet. A good first try for alternative times is to switch the MW and the TR hours (i.e., try MW 10:15-11:00 or TR 1:15-2:00). Jan. 24: Here is a picture (again at Stan Wagon's website) of a surface with unequal mixed partials at the origin. Can you see why the mixed partials are discontinuous? Jan. 19: Here is a picture (at Stan Wagon's website) of the surface we discussed in class, where the limit along any straight line into the origin is zero, while the limit along the parabola y=x^2 is 1/2.
