Textbook: Elementary Linear Algebra (8th edition), by Kolman and Hill (Pearson Prentice Hall 2004). We will cover most of the first seven chapters.

Announcements and Handouts: The main course page has an announcement section and a handout section. Both of these should be checked regularly, and you are responsible for any information found there.

Grading: Grades will be determined according to the following:

Participation -- 5%
Six Worksheets -- 30%      (5% each)
Two Quizzes -- 25%      (12.5% each)
Two Tests -- 40%      (20% each)

Tests/Quizzes: There will be two tests, Monday, July 3 and Monday, July 31. There will also be two in-class quizzes, Monday, June 19 and Monday, July 17.

Homework/Worksheets: I will regularly list homework problems from the book that should be studied and mastered. These problems are not to be turned in. Each week that does not immediately precede a test, I will give you a worksheet with problems, solutions to which are due the following Monday at the beginning of class. You are allowed and encouraged to work together on these, but your solutions should be turned in individually handwritten.

Attendance: Routine attendance in class is essential and expected. We will occasionally have a workshop day in class. On such a day, lecturing will be kept to a minimum, and we will spend most of the day working problems, and then discussing or presenting solutions. Participation in class counts for 5% of your course grade.

Important Dates: Through Friday, June 9 you may drop the class with a 100% refund and no record of any grade. Through Friday, June 23 you may drop the class and receive an automatic grade of W. Through Friday, July 7 you may drop the class and receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Through Monday, July 31 you may drop the class only with permission from the dean, and then receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Avoidance of a low grade is not sufficient reason to obtain permission to withdraw after June 23.

Calculators: Calculators will be neither allowed nor necessary for the tests, quizzes, or homework.

Office Hours: If you have any questions or problems, you are encouraged to come by my office during office hours, or make an appointment to come by some other time. Email is the best way to contact me. If you plan on coming during office hours, you need not notify me ahead of time. Office hours are public hours, so you should expect that there may be other students there also.

Student Disabilities: The University of Oklahoma is committed to providing reasonable accommodation for all students with disabilities. Students with disabilities who require accommodations in this course are requested to speak with me as early in the semester as possible. Students with disabilities must be registered with the Office of Disability Services prior to receiving accommodations in this course. The Office of Disability Services is located in Goddard Health Center, Suite 166, phone 405/325-3852 or TDD only 405/325-4173.

Academic Misconduct: Procedures for dealing with cases of academic misconduct have changed as of Fall 2004. Students are assumed to be familiar with the current Academic Misconduct Code, details of which may be found at www.ou.edu/provost/integrity.
