Textbook: Elementary Linear Algebra (8th ed.), by Kolman & Hill (Prentice Hall 2004).

Announcements and Handouts: The main course page has an announcement section and a handout section. Both of these should be checked regularly, and you are responsible for any information found there.

Schedule of Topics: On the main course page, there will be links to four Schedule of Topics pages, broken up by test dates. Each of these pages is a list, arranged by class date, of important terms, theorems, textbook examples, and textbook exercises that pertain to what is covered in class that day. This is meant to be a guide for your study outside of class.

Grading: Grades will be determined according to the following:

Eight Worksheets -- 40%
Four Tests -- 60%

Homework: Homework problems will be posted on the schedule of topics page for the appropriate test. These are not to be turned in. The homework assignments are there to provide you with a minimum level of exposure to the materials outside of class time. You will need to do many more problems before you feel comfortable with the concepts involved. The way to succeed in a math course is to work (and understand) a large number of problems.

Worksheets: There will be eight take-home worksheets. One weeks without tests, these are due Friday. On weeks with tests, these are due Wednesday. These are to be treated as homework assignments. You are free to use the textbook and your notes, and you are encouraged to work together, although your solutions should be turned in individually hand-written.

Tests: There will be four in-class tests, Friday, June 15, Friday, June 29, Friday, July 13 and Monday, July 30.

Attendance: Routine attendance in class is essential and expected. As in any course, you should try to read the relevant sections of the textbook before attending lectures. The schedule of topics page lists relevant sections and examples to go over.

Important Dates: Through Friday, June 8, you may drop the class with no record of any grade. Through Friday, June 22, you may drop the class and receive an automatic grade of W. Through Friday, July 6, you may drop the class and receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Through Monday, July 30, you may drop the class only with permission from the dean, and then receive a W only if you have a passing grade at the time of withdrawal. Avoidance of a low grade is not sufficient reason to obtain permission to withdraw after June 22.

Calculators: Calculators will be neither allowed nor necessary for the tests, quizzes, or homework.

Office Hours: If you have any questions or problems, you are encouraged to come by my office during office hours, or make an appointment to come by some other time. Email is the best way to contact me. If you plan on coming during office hours, you need not notify me ahead of time. Office hours are public hours, so you should expect that there may be other students there also.

Student Disabilities: The University of Oklahoma is committed to providing reasonable accommodation for all students with disabilities. Students with disabilities who require accommodations in this course are requested to speak with me as early in the semester as possible. Students with disabilities must be registered with the Office of Disability Services prior to receiving accommodations in this course. The Office of Disability Services is located in Goddard Health Center, Suite 166, phone 405/325-3852 or TDD only 405/325-4173.

Academic Misconduct: Procedures for dealing with cases of academic misconduct have changed as of Fall 2004. Students are assumed to be familiar with the current Academic Misconduct Code, details of which may be found at www.ou.edu/provost/integrity.
