Quandles: Applications and Examples

Abstract In this talk, I will give the definition of the fundamental quandle, and prove the Joyce-Matveev Theorem that the fundamental quandle determines the knot type. Then I will discuss quandle homomorphisms and the extension theory of quandles. Examples both topological and group theoretic will be given. The talk is based on joint work (in progress) with Oshiro and Saito.

The talk will be of an introductory nature, and as needed I will continue for a couple of more sessions.
