The USA Mitchell Cancer Institute faculty and staff share my commitment to develop a world-class cancer institute in Mobile, Alabama and achieve National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center designation within the next decade. With a keen focus on this goal, we are actively establishing innovative programs, recruiting distinguished faculty and staff and developing the facilities and infrastructure necessary to achieve this designation.
With a mission of providing superb cancer research, prevention, clinical care outreach, and education programs, we look forward to continuing to expand the availability of leading-edge cancer programs in our region. As a rapidly growing cancer institute, we have achieved many key milestones in our young life, including:
- Garnering more than over $125 million in federal, state and philanthropic funding.
- Currently constructing a new $75 million integrated research and clinical outpatient facility consisting of more than 110,000 square feet.
- Continuing to expand our medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology programs with an interdisciplinary approach to cancer treatment.
- Establishing a Community Outreach, Education and Information Division.
- Continuing to expand our Clinical Trials Division.
- Receiving a $22 million gift from the Mitchell Family to support research endeavors and other activities at our Institute.
- Entering into an alliance with the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, the state’s largest acute-care hospital.
