| A Letter From the Director The USA Mitchell Cancer Institute faculty and staff share my commitment to develop a world-class cancer institute in Mobile, Alabama and achieve National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center designation within the next decade. The USA Mitchell Cancer Institute is dedicated to the advancement of cancer treatment, prevention and early detection through its innovative basic and translational research programs, clinical cancer treatment and community outreach. As the only academic cancer research institute in the upper Gulf coast region, the creation of the Mitchell Cancer Institute represents the single most ambitious research growth initiative in the history of the University of South Alabama.
All clinical and research programs of the Mitchell Cancer Institute are located in our new 125,000 square foot state of the art facility. The building design, often described as a work of art, brings cancer research and treatment under one roof, in a way that fosters a spirit of collaboration between clinical care and basic and translational research. For patients, all oncology services including medical oncology, gynecological oncology, radiation oncology and chemotherapy services are located in the same building where our team of physicians provides an interdisciplinary approach to each patient’s treatment plan. Technology available at the Mitchell Cancer Institute includes a Tomotherapy System, Cyberknife and 64 slice PET/CT Scanner.
Our leadership team at the Mitchell Cancer Institute also includes Eddie Reed, M.D., Clinical Director, Hung Khong, M.D., Associate Director of Clinical Research and Laurie Owen, Ph.D. Associate Director of Basic and Translational Sciences. With a mission of providing superb cancer research, prevention, clinical care, community outreach, and educational programs, we look forward to continuing to expand the availability of leading-edge cancer programs in our region.
Thank you for your interest in the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute. My colleagues and I welcome a dialogue with you and can be reached at (251) 460-6993.
Sincerely,

Michael Boyd, M.D., Ph.D.
