About the Mitchell Cancer Institute
 

  • Initiated in 2000 as the only academic cancer research institute in the upper Gulf coast region, the creation of the Mitchell Cancer Institute represents the single most ambitious research growth initiative in the history of the University of South Alabama
  • Leadership team includes Michael Boyd, M.D., Ph.D., Director, Eddie Reed, M.D., Clinical Director, Hung Khong, M.D., Associate Director of Clinical Research and Laurie Owen, Ph.D., Associate Director of Basic & Translational Sciences
  • Clinical services include Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Gynecologic Oncology and Clinical Research
  • New 125,000 sq.ft. integrated clinical & research facility completed in 2008
  • Radiation therapy service includes a state-of-the-art Cyberknife, Tomotherapy System and 64 slice PET-CT Scanner
  • A medical infusion area featuring both private and semi-private infusion stations with a view of the terraced park
  • Easy access to the inpatient and diagnostic facilities available at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital and Mobile Infirmary Medical Center
  • A laboratory research area featuring:
    Five Research Centers – Molecular Pathology and Diagnostics; Metastasis and Tumor Biology; Cell and Immune Therapies; Prevention; and, Drug Discovery
  • Core Support Laboratories including: Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry; Cell & Tissue Culture and Biobank; Prevention Research Clinic; BL3 Laboratory; and, Structural NMR Prevention Research Clinic
  • Administrative and support area featuring:
