Basic and Translational Research

The USA Mitchell Cancer Institute focuses on research to accelerate the translation of new knowledge into novel therapies and diagnostic tools.

Laurie Owen,
Associate Director of Basic and Translational Research

  • Cancer Immunotherapy - to find improved treatments, prevention, and cure for cancers through manipulation of the immune system.
  • Strategies for selection of gene-transduced stem cells - tested in vitro and in vivo. A newly developed protocol of culture and gene transduction of neural stem cells will be utilized for gene therapy of primary and metastatic brain tumors.
  • Identification of proteomic markers for cancer and their trace analysis within biological fluids and tissues.
  • Preclinical cancer pharmacology - a gene-therapy approach.
  • Understanding the regulation of various metastasis related genes by epigenetic modification.
  • Role of transcription regulatory proteins and complexes in metastasis.
