Dr. Adel L. Barsoum, Assistant Professor, received his Ph.D. from Christian Albrechts University, Kiel, Germany in 1965. He joined the Faculty at the Heinrich Heine University Medical Center in Düsseldorf,
and at the University of Essen. He was also a visiting scientist at the Chester Beatty Cancer Research Institute in London. He did his postdoctoral studies at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Pennsylvania State University.
My laboratory is studying the immunochemistry and expression of the Oncofetal antigen in different types of murine and human tumors. This antigen has been recently identified by us as immature laminin receptor protein, which is conserved in rodents and humans. It plays a role in tumor invasion and metastasis and is autoimmunogenic in the tumor bearing host.
Currently we are monitoring B- and T-Cell immune response of breast cancer patients immunized with recombinant pure OFA/iLRP loaded on their autologous dendritic cells in an FDA-approved Phase I / II clinical trial. |
