University of South Alabama (USA) College
of Medicine. The proximity to other departments in the
College of Medicine and in the College of Arts and Sciences
and our access to facilities for working on infectious
organisms, stimulates interactions and collaborations
both in the University and internationally.
The Interdisciplinary
Graduate Program in Basic Medical Sciences at the
University of South Alabama College of Medicine awards
the Ph.D. degree in Basic
Medical Science and is designed for students
interested in careers in biomedical investigation. The
program provides broad training which can lead to academic
careers in medical institutions and universities or
to a wide variety of research or administrative positions
in government, non-profit or industry settings.
The strengths of the Microbiology & Immunology research
focus lie in:
(1) the availability
of interdisciplinary courses and collaborations among
the other basic sciences
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cancer
Biology , Cell
Biology & Neuroscience, Molecular
& Cellular Pharmacology and Physiology.
(2) an enthusiastic,
well-funded and internationally known faculty, and
(3) a faculty with diverse research interests such as
cell biology, molecular biology, virology, bacteriology,
parasitology, and immunology.
The goals of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology
are to:
| |
- Conduct fundamental
research in the areas of bacterial and viral
pathogenesis and the resulting host's response
mechanisms.
- Foster the translation
of basic research to clinical application.
- Educate and train this
