Friday (14)

Afternoon: Check in at Homewood Suites.

12:00 – 5:00. Arrival at USA paleobotany lab. Life Sciences Building (LSCB) Room 230. Come see and talk about Mesozoic and Neogene plant fossils.

 

7:00. Reception and food at home of Debra and Cooper Stults - 27640 Rigsby Road Daphne AL. The JAG TRAN (campus bus) will arrive at the Homewood Suites parking lot at 6:00 p.m. for transportation to and from reception.

 

Saturday (15)

8:30 – 5:00 Academic program. Instructional Laboratory Building (ILB).

 

10:30 Coffee break

12:30 Lunch

3:00 Coffee break

 

6:00 Mixer – Alumni Hall (including a brief presentation on the Confederate submarine the Hunley, which was built in the church next door – USA Biology professor Dr. Jack O’Brien http://www.southalabama.edu/biology/faculty/obrien/obrienindex.html).

 

7:00 Banquet and talk by Dr. Rich Aronson "Got Crabs? Climate Change and Biological Invasion in Antarctica". http://faculty.disl.org/raronson.html. Terrace Room – Student Center (SC).

Sunday (16)

Field Trip to newly discovered Pleistocene plant fossil site on the Mobile River with a brief stop at Ellicot’s Stone http://www.aspls.org/history/index.html. Vans will arrive at the Homewood Suite parking lot at 9:00 and return at 3:00. Boxed lunch will be provided.

 

USA biology instructor Mr. Smoot Major will point out interesting extant flora at the site.
