The Department of Music offers a variety of academic programs emphasizing comprehensive musicianship designed to help students acquire the knowledge
and skills for careers in the 21st Century. Specific music and college core requirements are common to all programs.

Bachelor of Music with
Concentration in Music Education

Students will acquire the skills and experience necessary to teach grade levels N-12. This degree includes the Alabama Teacher Certification in Music. [check sheet - pdf]

Bachelor of Music with
Concentration in Performance

Vocal and instrumental students pursuing performance careers will have the opportunity for intense study and practice in solo and ensemble situations. Students will perform a public recital during their Junior and Senior years.

Bachelor of Music with Elective Studies in Business
This degree, offered in conjunction with the Mitchell College of Business, prepares students for work in the multi-billion dollar music industry. Study of business principles, retail, production, recording, music technology, legal issues, and an internship comprise the program.

Bachelor of Music with Elective Studies in Specific Outside Fields
This flexible degree option allows students to pursue rigorous study in other academic disciplines allowing for an additional major or minor.

 Bachelor of Fine Arts with Emphasis in Music Theatre
This degree is offered in conjunction with the Department of Dramatic Arts. It emphasizes performance skills necessary for musical theatre. Students will take core courses in Music and Drama and participate in a variety of stage productions. (degree is offered through the department of drama)

Minor in Music
A student in any academic program may declare a music minor. It includes courses in Music Theory, Music Literature, instrumental or vocal study, and participation in ensembles.
