The Finnish educational system is among the best in the world, enjoying generous government financial backing and parental support. Teachers have a great deal of influence in their schools and Finnish society views the profession of teaching on par with that of medicine and law. Students start school at the age of seven, yet manage to score higher than students in any other industrialized nation in math, science, and reading on tests they take as 15-year-olds. Further, a full 65% of Finland’s youth continue on to college. |
