USA Summer Session in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico

The University of South Alabama Summer Session in Mexico will be held in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. Students participating in this program will attend the Universidad Veracruzana, School of Foreign Students. The University of Veracruz, founded in 1944, is considered a leading university in Mexico. Its School for Foreign Students, founded in 1957, promotes the learning of Spanish and Literature; and the knowledge of Mexico as it is today through their Language Study, Cultural Immersion and Home Stay Programs.
 
Program Courses
 
  • UV-EEE Spanish Structural Focus (Grammer)
    Course - Level I-V*
  • UV-EEE Spanish Communicative Focus Course (Conversion)
    Workshop Level I-V*
  • UV-EEE Immersion Program
    (Tutorial 18 Hrs./Required for transfer credit approval)*  
 
(Total Transfer Credit from Mexican institution: 7 hours granted by UV)**
USA Content Course - 3 Credits (3 credit hours granted by USA)**

Participating Faculty
 
The program director for the USA Summer Session in Mexico varies each year, please contact the US Foreign Languages and Literatures (Spanish) Department for an update. Classes will be taught by USA faculty and University of Veracruz instructors.
 
By special arrangement, advanced Spanish level students may also register to other content courses offered by the UV-EEE. This requires pre-approval and the payment of additional fees. Some restrictions apply.
 
Program Fee
Varies each year please contact USA OIE or the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures
 

Participants are responsible for their personal expenses; including airfare, telephone, laundry expenses, local and other transportation, books, passports, visas, major medical health/accident insurance, etc.

 

Program Field Trips:

  • One two-day trip to the Archeological site of the Pyramid of El Tajin, the Totonac area and the beach.
  • Additional excursions may be available locally at added cost.
  • Schedules and locations subject to change without prior notice.

The University of South Alabama reserves the rights to modify, re-budget, charge surcharges, and cancel the program if necessary.

 
 

PROGRAM FEE INCLUDES:

  • UV-EEE tuition
        (7 transfer credit hours)*
  • USA Content course tuition,
        (3 USA credit hours)*
  • Program and registration fees
  • Home stay
        (6 weeks/3 meals/Double occupancy)
  • International Student I.D. Card or other 24/7 emergency assistance program.
  • Transfers from local airport (as scheduled, check with program coordinator)

    *after the successful completion of the program, 10 hrs.
Please contact the program coordinator for information on the availability of space in this program. 
 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • All pre-departure orientation sessions are mandatory.
  • USA regulation requires that all USA students process a Transient Student Approval Form.
    (Send a copy of the approved form to complete your file at the International Programs Office).
    Deadline for this form: First Pre-departure Session.
  • Students must have a valid passport (submit a copy of the passport by the first orientation session to complete your application 'no exceptions').
    Passport must be valid for at least six month following the last date of stay in Mexico.
  • Must be 19 years of age prior to departure
  • Must be in good academic and non-academic standing with USA or home university and at least a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Note: Applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis.
