What makes a good digital image?
Of course there is a lot of subjectivity in the answer but we must
begin somewhere. In my experience there are two major factors in
determining the success of an image on the web:
Key Point: Quality and Size. The image must be
the right size and be clear enough give the viewer
the information or experience you intend for her to have.
Depending upon its purpose, the image's legibility, its level
of detail, its color
fidelity, and whether or not it accurately represents the dimensions of
the original
document will determine viewer's satisfaction.
Key Point: For Images used on the Web, Time required to
download. If you have spent a lot of time
on the Internet using a dialup connection, you probably have
experienced the frustration of waiting for the next screen to appear.
A good image then is one that requires a minimum download time to
produce the intended result for the viewer.
To begin, we must understand what a digital image is and how the viewer sees
them.
