Unit 2 Color: 6 of 23 Try It!

Read these instructions FIRST!

  1. Minimize this browser window (and any others you have open) so you can see your desktop.
  2. In the Tutorial folder, find the RGBtoHEX icon and double click to start the freeware program. You should see a dialog box like this one.
  3. Open the Options menu and select "Always on top."
  4. Maximize this browser window. You should still be able to see the RGBtoHEX window.
  5. Drag the RGBtoHEX window to the right edge of the screen so that you can see the text in the box below:

Remember our light bulb with dimmer analogy? This program lets us simulate that concept. Try setting the RGB sliders to different values and observe the resulting color in the rectangular space to the right of the "Copy" button.  What color results from a R=255, G=255 and B=0? Do you see black when RGB=0,0,0? White with an RGB of 255,255,255?

Try setting all three RGB values to 200; then to 150; then to 100. Do you see that you are getting various shades of gray?

OK, let's minimize the RGBtoHEX window for now. You'll need it later, so don't close it.
