More than likely, you will create your web images using  one of three types of source images:

Of these three sources, the first two allow some degree of control over the quality and size of image we will prepare for use on the web.  But for all three sources, there is an image capture rule of thumb:

Key Point: Always try to capture a high quality image using with the highest resolution and color bit depth you can.

While Photoshop allows us to enhance images, it cannot create information that is not in the image.
