Basic Creating and Editing of Graphic Using Photoshop Tools

Objective: This job aid shows you how to create an image using a Type Tool in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Program.  Once you create a type layer, you can edit the text and apply transformation commands layer to it. You can change the type and apply it into a variety of shapes, in this example; you will distort the text into the circle text.

Step 1: Start your Photoshop program - Start, Programs, then click Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Step 2: Create a new file in RGB mode – File, New.

Tip: RGB (Red-Green-Blue) mode includes three colors to reproduce up to 16 million colors on-screen.

Step 3: Select the horizontal type tool and click wherre you want to type.

Tip: The small line through the I-beam marks the position of the type baseline. For horizontal type, the baseline marks the line on which the type rests.

Step 4: Type in what you want.  In this example, you are typing the alphabetic characters from the left hand-side of your screen to the right hand-side of your screen.  Note: The letters needs to be close to each other because all texts will get closer even you distort it.

Remark:  After you finish, the text will appear as a new layer.  In case you want to move any text, you must use a Move Tool in changing the position.

Step 5: Select Window, Show Layer

Remark:  When you show the Layer, it gives you the freedom to rearrange your image, adjust its color and brightness, apply special effects, edit, and add new elements to your image.

Step 6: Select Text Layer, Image, Transform, Free Transform.  You need to enlarge the text.  The reason is to make sure the text will still readable when you distort.

Step 7: Select Filter, Distort, Polar Coordinates.  Polar Coordinates Filter will distort the graphic into the circle.  However, you will need to put the text graphic in the middle of the screen so that the circle text is not too small when you distort it.
