Capturing Video from a Digital Camera into Ulead

 * Clipping and Publishing the Project *

Objective: To demonstrate editing and publishing a video clip.

Step 1: Connect the camera to the computer. Start Ulead. Capture your video (See Job Aid – Connecting the Camera and Capturing Video) or open a project.

Step 2: Opening a Project:

You can either capture the video or you can open a project if you have already captured the video and saved it. If you wish to work with a clip you have already captured, click on Open Project (located to the left of the Preview Window).

Step 3: Selecting the Clip to Trim:

If you choose Open Project, a video clip representing your project should appear to the right of the Preview Window. Click on it and drag it to the gray square. Click on the clip and it will appear in the Preview Window. Now you are ready to trim the clip. Notice that you are now in the Storyboard view.

Step 4: Trimming Your Video:

To trim the beginning of the clip, drag left trim bar handle (the trim bar handles are the ones on top with the green line, just under the Preview Window) to the right to the point where you want the video to start. To trim the end of the clip, drag the right trim bar handle to the left.

To view just the trimmed part of the clip, hold down Shift and click the Play button (under the Preview Window, second button).

If you are happy with the editing, click the Apply button located on the left side of the screen.

Step 5: Publishing Your Video:

After trimming your video, you are ready to publish it. Publishing writes the video in a video file format such as AVI and compresses it. To publish, click the triangle to the right of Finish. Select Create Video File and then, Streaming Windows Media. Select a folder and file name and click Save.

Ulead will now render the video (convert it to a video format and compress it) and then open the Windows Media screen for you to see the video.

Step 6: Close Ulead – You are finished.
