Perdido River

Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures as we Canoe and Kayak  the Perdido River on Saturday, February 2.  This is as easy float trip with no rapids and will be fun for both beginners and advanced paddlers.  The Perdido River demarcates the state line between Alabama and Florida.  We will begin our trip at Barrineau Park and then be taken by a semi-swift current for 4 miles along remote pine and oak wooded areas.  We’ll see lots of NO TRESPASSING signs and private hunting camps and small bayous, bogs, and feeder streams that can be navigated for short distances and provide an environment much different from that of the river.  We will pack lunch and eat on the river.

Leave Campus Rec at 8:00 a.m.  Drive one hour to Barrieneau Park, “set sail” around 10 a.m., paddle for about four hours.  Return to the Student Recreation Center around 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $20 for students and $22 for their family members, $25 for faculty/staff/alums and $27 for their family members, $35 for all others. Fee includes transportation, canoes, kayaks and accessories. Does not include food (we will provide coolers).

How to sign-up: Leave a check for the full amount payable to “U.S.A.” (sorry, no cash) along with your name(s) and cell phone number(s) at the Front Desk of  the Student Recreation Center.  We will call you to confirm your place on the trip along with more information.  We will accept registrants until day prior to trip.  Fee is non-refundable within 2 days of trip UNLESS we can replace you or trip is canceled. Checks will not be deposited until completion of trip; if trip is canceled (rain or air temperature below 60 degrees), all fees will be refunded.

Trip limit: Maximum of 14, minimum of eight.
