Camp/Hike McKay Hallow Trail

Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures as we camp and hike the McKay Hollow Trail October 10 and 11 (Saturday and Sunday).

We travel to the beautiful Monte Sano State Park near Huntsville which features the 1600 feet high Mount Sano and miles of trails.  We will hike the  rugged McCay Hollow Trail over a 4-mile loop and climb down a narrow rock trail that is strewn with boulders and outcroppings with fantastic views of the Huntsville Valley and the gorgeous 70-foot Blue Spring Falls.

Day 1 – Leave Rec Center at 6:00 a.m.  Drive 6 hours to Huntsville, Alabama. Set up camp in Monte Sano State Park.  Participants may hike, fish, or go to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center ($25 for museum, Rocket Park, IMAX; $20 for museum only; $8 for IMAX only; discounts if we make a group reservation). 
Day 2 – Four mile hike (without packs). Drive back to Mobile (8 p.m.).

Cost (per person): $50 for students/one family member, $60 for staff/faculty/one family member, $70 for non-USA.  Price includes transportation, tent, sleeping bag, backpack, cooking gear, camp fees. Does not include food, fees at Space Center.   

Sign up: with Randy Hunter at Campus Recreation or leave a check payable for the $20 deposit or for the full amount payable to “U.S.A.” (sorry, no cash) along with your name and cell phone number at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center.  The full fee is payable by Wednesday, October 7.  Fees are non-refundable 3 days prior to trip unless we can replace you with someone on wait list or the trip is canceled. Checks will not be deposited until completion of trip; if trip is canceled, all fees will be refunded.

Driver is needed: if 2nd vehicle needed, anyone who drives their car and can carry five, we will waive $50 and pay for your gas.

Trip limit: maximum of fourteen; minimum of eight.

Mandatory pre - trip meeting on Wednesday, October 7, 8:00 p.m. at Rec Center.
