Paddle Sepulga River
Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures as we Paddle the Sepulga River on Saturday, October 24.
This is a 6.8mile four hour paddle along 5 – 10 foot high banks lined with thick brush and forest including hickory, dogwood, magnolia, and longleaf pine trees. Black-eyed Susans add color to the banks and reflect brilliantly off the muddy brown water. Blue herons and a wide variety of woodpeckers will be spotted. Besides long, peaceful stretches of float time, there are numerous shoals and some nice Class 1 rapids. Due to the length of the trip and the rapids, this trip is not recommended for beginners.
We will leave the Rec Center at 7 a.m. and drive 2 hours to Evergreen, Alabama. We will put in around 10 a.m., eat lunch on the river, and finish around 2 p.m. We will arrive back in Mobile around 5 p.m.
Cost (per person): $30 for students/one family member, $40 for faculty/staff/one family member, $50 for non-USA. Fee includes transportation, canoes, kayaks and accessories. Does not include food (we will provide coolers).
Sign-up: with Randy Hunter, Campus Recreation or leave a check payable to “U.S.A.” (sorry, no cash) along with your name and cell phone number at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center. I will call you and confirm receipt of check. $10 non-refundable deposit is required of students, $15 for non-students, with the full fee payable by Thursday, October 22. Fees are non-refundable 3 days prior to the trip unless we can replace you with someone on wait list or trip is canceled. Checks will not be deposited until completion of trip; if trip is canceled; checks will be destroyed.
Driver needed: a faculty or staff member is needed to drive the SGA van; if you drive, we will waive $30 of your fee. If a student can drive their vehicle, pull the trailer and carry five, we will waive your entire fee and pay for your gas.
