OKTSOBERFEST PADDLE OF THE MAGNOLIA RIVER
Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures as we Paddle the Magnolia River on Saturday, October 6. This will be a relaxing and inspiring six mile float lasting about 4 hours as we paddle from CR 49 in Baldwin County to and through Weeks Bay. As part of Oktsoberfest week at USA, this trip will be offered free for USA students. Enjoy the cruise without the booze!
The first part of this trip is marked by beautiful, ornate houses reflecting old southern style and charm which line the banks of the river. The middle portion will become a marshy area where we will see egrets and herons perched in trees and wading on the banks. And, we may get lucky; manatees are often spotted in the river. The final part will be open water paddling along the banks of the beautiful Weeks Bay shoreline and wetlands habitat. Weeks Bay is fringed with Spartina and Juncus marsh and swamp; it receives salt water from the Gulf and fresh water from Magnolia River, thus making it a diverse and fragile habitat for plants and wildlife.
We will meet at the Campus Recreation Center at 7:30 a.m. and leave at 8:00 a.m. We will begin our float at about 10 a.m. We will eat lunch on the river and finish around 1:30 p.m. We will arrive back on campus around 4:30 p.m.
Cost (per person): FREE for students and $22 for family members, $25 for staff/faculty/alums and $27 for family members, $30 for non-USA. Price includes transportation, canoes and kayaks. Fee does not include food.
How to sign-up: Leave a check for the full amount payable to “U.S.A.” (sorry, no cash) along with your name and cell phone number at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center. We will call you to confirm your place on the trip along with more information. You may sign up until day prior to departure if space allows.
