Black
Creek River
Saturday, June 27

Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures as we paddle Black Creek River on Saturday, June 27.

Black Creek is Mississippi’s prime example of a coastal black water stream.  We will run the 10 mile 4 ½ hour stretch from Janice Landing to the Fairley Bridge Landing in DeSoto National Forest.  This section has been designated as a Wild and Scenic Stream because of its’ scenic qualities and remoteness.

We will leave Campus Recreation at 7:00 a.m. and drive two hours to Brooklyn, MS.  We will begin our float around 10:00 a.m. and finish around 3:30 p.m.  We will eat lunch on the river.  We will load up and leave around 4:30 p.m. and return to Mobile around 6:30 p.m.

Cost (per person): $30 for students/one family member, $40 for faculty/staff/one family member, $50 for non-USA. Family members under the age of 17 may sign up beginning June 21 if space is available.   Fee includes transportation, canoes, kayaks and accessories.  Does not include food (we will provide coolers).

Driver needed: a faculty or staff member is needed to drive the SGA van; if you drive, we will waive $20 of your fee.

Sign up: with Randy Hunter at Campus Recreation or leave a check payable for the $10 deposit or for the full amount payable to “U.S.A.” (sorry, no cash) along with your name and cell phone number at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center.  The full fee is payable by Thursday, June 24.  Fees are non-refundable 3 days prior to trip unless we can replace you with someone on wait list or the trip is canceled. Checks will not be deposited until completion of trip; if trip is canceled, all fees will be refunded.

Trip limit: maximum of fourteen, minimum of eight.

Mandatory trip meeting is Thursday, June 24, 8:00 p.m., Rec Center.  We will discuss weather, food, sign forms, answer questions.

Please check out our photo gallery page for pictures of previous trips and our Summer itinerary.
