USA PAWS Information

1) What is the difference between Public Access and the Secured Access areas
of PAWS?

  • The Public Access area on PAWS contains general information and does not
require a JAG Number to gain access. You can view things such as the Class Schedule, the Catalog, general financial aid info, etc.

  • The Secured Access area requires both your JAG Number and your PIN. The
secured area contains information such as your financial aid status, schedule,
grades, student account information, unofficial academic transcript, etc.
The secured area now also contains information for employees such as pay
    stubs, leave balance, etc.

2) How do I get access?

If you are a current or former USA student, you already have access to PAWS. You need only two things to enter PAWS: a JAG Number and a PIN. Instructions for logging in with your JAG Number are provided on PAWS after you click Enter Secure Area.

3) What is my PIN?

Your initial PAWS PIN is your birth date (mmddyy). As you log in the first time, you will be prompted to create a new 6-digit PIN. This is the PIN you will use for subsequent logins. All initial PINS are expired, and first-time users will be forced to set a new PIN:

1. Type your birth date as the old PIN (mmddyy)
2. Type a new 6-digit Number for your new PIN
3. Type the new 6-digit PIN again for verification.

PINs are exactly 6-digits - no letters or characters allowed. And remember, never share your PIN with others!

4) What is my Security Question and Answer?

The Security Question and Answer verifies your identity as a PAWS user and allows you into PAWS if you have forgotten your current PIN. When you log into PAWS for the first time, you will be presented with a Login Verification Security Question and Answer page. At that page you must define a "security question" for which only you have the answer. After you submit your question and answer, that information is stored for later retrieval and you can continue to login. In subsequent login sessions, if you forget your PIN, you can reset your PIN when you correctly answer your security question.

5) Help!  I forgot my PIN!

As a PAWS user, you can reset your own PIN, provided you have set up your Security Question and Answer. Here is what to do if you cannot remember your PIN Number:

1. On the PAWS login page (where you enter your JAG Number and PIN), type your     JAG Number first (you will get an "authorization Failure" error if you skip this     step!)
2. Click the Forgot PIN? button (located just below where you enter your
    JAG Number and PIN.
3. You will be asked to provide the correct answer to your security question
4. When you submit the correct security answer, you must immediately
reset your PIN to a six-digit number.

Students - If your PAWS web access becomes disabled, submit a PAWS PIN Reset Request Form to the Office of the Registrar with valid photo ID in order to have your PIN reset. Once your PIN has been reset, follow the instructions for an initial login.

Employees - If your PAWS web access becomes disabled, submit an Employee PAWS PIN Reset Request Form to the Payroll Office with valid photo ID in order to have your PIN reset. Once your PIN has been reset, follow the instructions for an initial login.
6) What Internet browser should I use?

PAWS supports Internet Explorer and Netscape versions 4.0 and higher. The following versions are recommended:

  • Internet Explorer 6.0
  • Netscape 6.2
  • Internet Explorer for the Mac 5.1

7) When can I access this system?

PAWS is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except when the server is processing backups, upgrades, or maintenance.

8) What if I forgot or lost my JAG Number?

Students - The Registrar’s Office can provide your Jag Number if you forget it. You will be required to submit a Jag Number Disclosure Request Form to the Registrar’s Office during business hours. You must present a valid photo ID (Drivers License, State Non-drivers ID, or Passport) with your request or fax the completed request form with a photocopy of your valid ID to (251) 460-7738, Attention PAWS Help. The PAWS Help desk will provide your Jag Number to a telephone number or email address that you provide.
