  INFO FOR THE POTENTIAL MEMBER:

Recruitment is a weeklong mutual selection process when the women of each chapter get to meet the potential new members interested in joining a sorority. During this time, sorority women will have the chance to talk with the potential members and describe the benefits of sorority life. Recruitment is divided into four rounds-round one, two, three and preferentials. As the week progresses, each round becomes more formal, and the potential members will learn a little more about what makes each house special. On Bid Day, new members are united with chapter members in a large celebration in which everyone will get to know each other and spend time with their new sisters. Phi Mu will pair each new member, which Phi Mu calls "Phis", with their own Lion Buddy, who is a sister of Phi Mu. Phis, their Lion Buddies and all Phi Mus will share in tons of fun and food at our slumber party!

The Greek community has so much to offer women at the University of South Alabama and plays an integral role in the collegiate experience. The outline for recruitment is listed below.

Ice Breakers:

This is the first night where you will visit each of the sororities' houses for about 25 minutes. The dress is casual for these parties. Ex: nice pants, or sundresses.
Philanthropy Day:

The theme of this day revolves around the service responsibility involved with sorority life. During this party you will get a chance to help create fun philanthropy projects. The dress is comfortable casual clothes. Ex: shorts, casual pants.
Theme Parties:

Each sorority will have their own theme for this party. Theme parties last about 45 minutes. During this time you will be entertained with different skits and costumes. The dress is a little dressier, such as a cocktail dress and comfortable shoes.

Preference Parties: This is the most serious party of the week. This party will hopefully answer all of your last minute questions. After these parties you will sign a preference card. Nice dresses are appropriate for these parties.
Bid Day:

Through a mutual selection process you will be matched with a sorority. You will receive a bid card and then join your new sisters. Each sorority will have a party to welcome its new members. The dress is shorts and t-shirts.

INFO FOR THE PARENTS:

Why should your daughter become a Phi Mu?

For many years, Phi Mu has provided a very special environment for sisterhood at the University of South Alabama. Friendships are abundant within our environment and your daughter can find relationships here that will last her for a lifetime. We are bound together by our loyalty to the ideals of love, honor and truth. Using these ideals in our daily decisions helps us and can help your daughter accept new challenges that face us as young women.

Your daughter will find that college will present her with many scholastic, social and personal challenges. Phi Mu will reinforce the guidance, standards and morals that you, as parents, set upon your daughters while they were growing up. Phi Mu offers your daughter accountability and stability. Moving away from home for the first time is difficult; every Phi Mu has experienced it and understands the feelings that come along with it, therefore; Phi Mu will become your daughter's home away from home. She can safely come and relax in our house and be surrounded by girls that love and care about her, just as you would want them to.

Through Phi Mu your daughter will have the opportunity to utilize many of her skills and unique characteristics. From dancing to water polo, from drawing backdrops to organizing the fraternity's budget, she will certainly have her time in the spotlight. She will also develop fortes in many fields she had never experienced before. Leadership, time management, organization skills, creative thinking, contingency planning and networking are few of the many abilities your daughter has the opportunity to develop and grow into a successful young lady.
