The Constitution

ARTICLE ONE:

Name.

 

The Organization shall be called “Pakistan Students Association (PSA)”.

 

ARTICLE TWO:

Purpose.

 

The purpose of the Association is to provide representation for its members in the Council of International Students Organizations, as well as to raise interest in Pakistani affairs among the students at the University of South Alabama. The Association shall:

1. Organize social and educational events about Pakistan and Islam.

2. Provide Pakistani representation at International Student functions.

3. To facilitate new students.

 

ARTICLE THREE:

Membership.

 

Membership is open to all University of South Alabama faculty and students. For regular academic terms i.e. fall and spring membership dues are $30 for officers and $20 for general members and for summer semester membership dues will be half respectively.

 

ARTICLE FOUR:

Officers.

 

The Association officers are as follows:

ARTICLE FIVE:

Officers Duties.

 

President: Preside over the duties of the Association and of the officers. Implementing the ideas and thoughts given by other committee chairs or members, Chair the meetings, devising new ideas and methods to bring more members and funds.
 

Vice-President: Leading the organization in absence of President, performing all above mentioned duties of President in his presence and absence. He is also responsible for assisting president in monitoring all PSA activities.
 

Secretary: Keeping minutes of all meetings. Keeping record of officer attendance in all the official PSA meetings. He is also responsible for correspondence between all PSA members and between other university organizations.
 

Treasurer: Collecting membership dues, arranging funds by various means, getting the SGA budget every semester. Keeping track of finances and has it ready upon request by the President.
 

Attorney General: Making sure that the Association is being run according to the constitution. He is responsible for monitoring the organization related activities of PSA officers and members.
 

Activity Director: Will arrange and organize for the different cultural programs, activities and events. Give new ideas to President and will be person in charge of all PSA events.
 

Publicity Director: Advertises the activities organized by PSA. Making affective marketing techniques and will also is responsible for making guest list and invite people.

 

ARTICLE SIX:

Meetings.

 

Meetings will be held at least once a month. However, any of the two officers reserve the right to call a meeting at an advance notice of a minimum of 48 hours.

 

ARTICLE SEVEN:

Elections.

 

Elections will be held at the end of every academic year. Any enrolled Pakistani students are eligible to run for any of the officer positions other the President (please see article eight). All Pakistani students are eligible to vote in elections.

 

ARTICLE EIGHT:

Presidential Elections and Nominations:

 

To be nominated for president; candidate has to be the member of the executive cabinet for at least one semester and should have actively served PSA in past. Any PSA officer can serve as a president only for two terms.

 

ARTICLE NINE:

Removal of an Office Chair.

 

If a committee member misses two consecutive meetings without proper excuse, or three consecutive meetings with an excuse, in this case; he/she can be removed from his/her position through the process of “vote of no confidence”. For such an action, the member and/or members may submit written complaint to the Secretary or the Attorney General. The accused reserves the right to protest, and therefore must appear before the members to discuss the issue and defend himself. Under extreme circumstances, a 2/3rd majority vote could be taken from the members on the spot.

 

ARTICLE TEN:

Assigning a new officer position.

 

President can assign a new officer position in order to facilitate the organization with the 2/3rd majority approval of executive cabinet.

 

ARTICLE ELEVEN:

Amending the constitution.

 

Amendments can only be made in the constitution by conducting a 2/3rd majority vote of officers. Amendments can only be made once in a year.

 

   

AMENDMENTS:

LAST CONSTITUTION AMENDENTS MADE IN ZAEEM FAROOQ’S CABINET BY MAY-10-2008 WITH MAJORITY VOTE OF 2/3rd OF THE OFFICERS.
