Dr. Mohammad S. Alam, professor and chair of the department of electrical and computer engineering at the University of South Alabama, was recently presented with the 2005 Excellence in Research Award from the USA College of Engineering for his contributions in the areas of image processing, pattern recognition, and tracking.
Alam also received an award for his collaborative work with postdoctoral researcher Dr. Mugdesem Tanrioven. The two researchers received the Energy Systems Committee Prize Paper Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. They presented the award-winning paper, “Modeling and Power Quality Evaluation of PEM Fuel Cell Based Power System,” at the IEEE Industry Application Society Annual Meeting held in Seattle, Wash.
