USA Welcomes Alumnus Ron Eastburn as Visiting Executive Lecturer

Ron Eastburn, a University of South Alabama alumnus and former president and chief executive for SunTrust BankCard N.A., will serve as the Mitchell College of Business visiting executive lecturer at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, in Room 264 of the Mitchell College of Business on USA's main campus.

An Australian native, Eastburn received his undergraduate degree in economics from USA in 1976. He received his master's in business administration from the University of Central Florida, and also graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware.

Eastburn joined SunTrust in l983, rapidly advancing through top management positions in financial management, marketing, strategic planning, and mergers and acquisitions. As chief executive of the BankCard division, he grew card utilization by over 20 percent annually to over 100,000-plus consumer cards with $21 billion volume and net income of $25 million by 2004.

As senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions, he oversaw the acquisition of seven banks from l992 to 1995. He negotiated the deals, managed due diligence and oversaw the integration of the acquired companies.

Eastburn retired in 2004 from SunTrust and resides in Mobile.
