The University of South Alabama celebrates USA Homecoming 2006 and invites alumni, students, faculty, staff and the community to enjoy a host of festivities through Feb. 4, including athletic and alumni events, a pep rally, and a comedy show featuring “Chappelle’s Show” cast member Charlie Murphy.
The theme of this year’s homecoming is “Showdown in Jag Town USA,” and the two-week celebration will culminate in a doubleheader basketball game and recognition of the homecoming court on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Mitchell Center.
The doubleheader will feature the USA women’s basketball team vs. University of Arkansas-Little Rock at 5 p.m. and the USA men’s basketball team vs. Arkansas State at 7:35 p.m. A homecoming pep rally and party will be held at 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 at the Student Center Market/Multipurpose Room and will include an introduction of the teams and roll call.
The Hall of Fame Baseball Game is also scheduled for Feb. 4, kicking off at 1:30 p.m. at Stanky Field with a competition between the Jags baseball team and former Jags who are now in the professional leagues, along with visiting guests and professional players. Alumni are invited Feb. 4 to a reunion luncheon at noon at the Stanky Field Club House Patio and an alumni gathering at 6:30 p.m. on the Alumni Hall lawn.
Comedian and screenwriter Charlie Murphy will entertain the community at an 8 p.m. show on Friday, Jan. 27 in the Mitchell Center. A supporting cast member on Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show,” Murphy is widely recognized for the “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories” sketch. Tickets are $10 for USA students, $15 for USA faculty, staff and alumni, and $20 for the general public.
