Screening of "Deliverance" to Promote Discussion on Upcoming Lecture

The USA chapter of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and Jaguar Productions will host a screening of the movie "Deliverance," based on the best-selling novel by James Dickey, at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 2 in the Student Center Ballroom. It will be followed by a discussion led by Dr. Sue Walker, chair of the department of English.

The event is an introduction to a March 6 lecture by Christopher Dickey, award-winning author and son of famed poet and novelist James Dickey.

Dickey is Newsweek's Paris bureau chief and Middle East editor and the author of five books. His lecture, "Deep Deliverance: American Savagery and Survival," will be held at 7 p.m., March 6 in the John W. Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. It will examine the archetypal choice faced by the characters of "Deliverance" and compare them to the choices made by the U.S. government in the Global War on Terror. Both events are free and open to the public.
