The University of South Alabama Mitchell College of Business welcomes Christopher C. Melton Sr. as a visiting executive lecturer Sept. 27- 28.
Melton, a 1981 MCOB finance graduate, has more than 25 years of business experience. He is a co-founding partner of The White Oak Group, an investment firm in Atlanta, and he serves as co-chairman, finance and operations for Dataline Inc. Prior to founding The White Oak Group, Melton worked for IBM for 19 years. He was chief financial officer for IBM’s Asia Pacific Services Corporation and president of IBM, Asia Pacific Investment Corporation.
Melton recently donated to the MCOB $250,000 for the Melton Center for Entrepreneurship. Since he is an alumnus, the University matched Melton’s gift bringing the total endowment to $500,000. Melton also contributed $12,500 in honor of his parents toward a scholarship for students pursuing a degree in entrepreneurship.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from USA, he pursued his postgraduate education at Harvard University, Columbia University, Babson College and Thunderbird University.
Melton’s itinerary will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday night with a lecture to the Finance 501 class in MCOB, room 208. A dinner will be served in his honor at 7:15 p.m. that evening. He begins his Friday morning lecturing to the Principles of Marketing class. He will then address Intermediate Finance at 10:10 a.m. and his last lecture will begin at 11:15 a.m. in MCOB, room 264. A lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. in the MCOB board room.
