Dr. Zari Aliabadi has been appointed new chair of the physician assistant studies department in USA’s College of Allied Health Professions effective June 1.”
“We are extremely pleased that someone with Dr. Aliabadi ’s academic and clinical background has accepted the chair’s position in our physician assistant studies department,” said Dr. Richard E. Talbott, dean of allied health professions.
“Her unique background will not only be of benefit to the students in the program, but, also, provides an opportunity for collaborative initiatives across several departmental lines,” Talbott added. “I am sure Dr. Aliabadi will build on the program that is already nationally recognized for the excellent academic and clinical education of its students. We welcome Dr. Aliabadi in her new administrative role in the College of Allied Health Professions.”
Aliabadi brings a unique academic background to the department because in addition to her degree in physician assistant studies, she holds a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences from West Virginia University and a doctoral degree in pharmacy from the University of Tehran.
Aliabadi joined the USA faculty in 1987. From 1999 to 2005, she was an associate director and principal investigator of the Diabetic Foot Care Program. She has held a faculty position in the biomedical sciences department since 2002.
In addition to her appointment as chair of the physician assistant studies department, Aliabadi will maintain a joint appointment as full professor in the department of biomedical sciences.
