University of South Alabama President Gordon Moulton recently held a reception exhibiting the eclectic art collection of USA Education Professor Dr. John H. Strange at the USA Main Library. The collection is made up of 470 pieces of various mediums, including paintings, vintage posters, sculpture and photographs. Many of the pieces were created by USA student and faculty artists.

Strange has donated the collection to USA through Campaign USA, the University’s first comprehensive fund-raising campaign that seeks to raise $75 million for USA programs, faculty, students and construction over three years.

Strange said of his gift, “I hope, through my donation, to encourage other donations of all types to the University. A major University cannot exist without significant support from friends, alumni, faculty and students. We have a fantastic development office team, led by Dr. Busta. I hope that when they ask others to give to USA the fact that I have given will encourage many additional gifts.”

USA Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations Dr. Joseph F. Busta, Jr. said, “Dr. Strange's gift is the first collection of art ever given to the University of South Alabama and will form the foundation on which we can build a major University art collection.”

The College of Education also features pieces collected by Strange, including lithographs and USA student artwork.

The collection, which is currently exhibited in the USA Main Library, Room 181, is open for public viewing during normal library operating hours. For more information, call (251) 460-7021.
