The University of South Alabama Baldwin County welcomes Alabama’s Poet Laureate, Sue Walker, Ph.D. The distinguished lecture, Ripples on Bay Water: A Poet’s Perspective, will bring to light the history and personalities of those who formed the footprint of Mobile Bay.
The lecture will be held on Sunday, February 8, 3:00 p.m. at USA Baldwin County’s Performance Center located at the corner of St. James and Summit Streets in downtown Fairhope.
Dr. Walker is known nationally and internationally for her poetry, as well as for her critical articles on poets and writers. She is Poet Laureate of Alabama, having been re-elected for a second term in 2008, and the Stokes Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing and Director of the Stokes Center for Creative Writing at the University of South Alabama. From 1996-2008, she served as Chair of the English Department. Walker received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama, a master of education, master of arts and doctoral degrees from Tulane University. She has published nine books of poetry and over 70 articles on Southern writers. Recent works include In The Realm of Rivers, Reuben's Mobile and Faulkner Suite.
