University of South Alabama student Megan Hoffman, a senior from Mobile majoring in real estate, received the inaugural Larson Edge Real Estate Scholarship. The $1,000 award was given to Hoffman during the annual Honors Day at the USA Mitchell College of Business. She was selected because of her academic achievements.
The scholarship honors the 50 years of service Larson Edge contributed to the community. An executive of Volkert Engineering, Edge established its right-of-way department. He is credited with the creation and implementation of procedures for right-of-way acquisitions and appraisals, which have become industry norms. Earlier in his career, he was a professional appraiser who served his many clients throughout the Southeastern United States.
Edmond Eslava, a longtime real estate appraiser in coastal Alabama, donated the funds for the scholarship.
Dr. Donald Epley, USA professor and director of the Center for Real Estate Studies, said of the scholarship, “We are humbled by the donation and honored to recognize Mr. Edge. The award will assist in the education of our future professionals in the local real estate business.”
