The United Way of Southwest Alabama held its annual campaign kick-off luncheon at the USA Mitchell Center recently. This year's theme is “Give. Advocate. Volunteer. LIVE UNITED.” USA Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations Dr. Joseph F. Busta, Jr., is this year's United Way campaign chairman. He announced the 2009 goal of $5,077,000. USA's 2009 goal is $278,000, up from $275,535 raised in 2008. The kick-off date for the USA campaign is Sept. 23rd and will be chaired by Dr. Richard Talbott and Dr. Vaughn Millner as co-chair. At the luncheon are United Way Executive Director Angelo Miller, Busta, and Robbie Baker, board president of the United Way and region president of Whitney National Bank.
The United Way has been serving the community for 83 years, tackling issues by partnering with 58 agencies in Mobile, Clarke, and Washington counties. Approximately 700 companies and organizations run an employee-giving campaign to support more than 125,000 individuals each year.
