MOBILE -- Nominations are now being sought for the 2009 Mobilian of the Year Award, given annually to an individual who has made an extraordinary positive impact on the Mobile community.
The annual award is sponsored by the Cottage Hill Civitan Club and the University of South Alabama. The club is responsible for selecting the honoree, while the University provides assistance and hosts the annual banquet, which is held on campus each spring.
The award will be announced in February 2010, followed by the annual Mobilian of the Year banquet, set for April 8, at 6:30 p.m., at the USA Mitchell Center.
“The Cottage Hill Civitan Club is excited that the University of South Alabama has accepted dual ownership of this important program, and we look forward to working with the University to ensure its success in perpetuity,” said Randall Eckhoff, Mobilian of the Year chair.
“The club will continue to have complete responsibility for the selection process, while the University will support the program and host the banquet each year in the Mitchell Center.”
The Mobilian of the Year Program began in 1948 under the guidance of the Civitan Club of Mobile. In 2006, the Cottage Hill Civitan Club assumed sponsorship. This year marks the 61th anniversary of the Mobilian of the Year program.
Nomination forms have been sent to the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce list of civic clubs and charitable organizations, and are also available through the club. Forms and information are available on the club Web site at www.civitan.org/~cottagehill.
