Late this afternoon (Thursday, Dec. 10), the first of four bronze bells was hoisted high atop the new Moulton Tower and Alumni Plaza at the University of South Alabama.
The final placement of the bells will take place Friday morning.
The bells, which range in size from two to four feet in height and weigh from 600 pounds to more than one ton, are being installed in the 130-foot tall tower under construction adjacent to the Mitchell Center.
Moulton Tower is named in honor of USA President Gordon Moulton and his wife, Geri, in recognition of their service to the University. The tower and Alumni Plaza will serve as a monument honoring alumni, who are providing private support for the project.
The Moulton Tower and Alumni Plaza will be featured at a public grand opening set for the spring of 2010.
