USA to Host Hellenic Endowment Distinguished Lecture on March 3

The University of South Alabama department of foreign languages and literatures and the department of philosophy will present the Hellenic Endowment Distinguished Lecture with Dr. Victor Davis Hanson, Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, on Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.

Hanson will speak on “Society and Warfare in Ancient Greece.” The event is free and open to the public.

An expert on the history of war, Hanson is a regular contributor to National Review Online and many other national and international publications.

He is the author of some 170 articles, book reviews and newspaper editorials on Greek, agrarian, and military history and essays on contemporary culture.

Hanson has written or edited 16 books, including the New York Times bestseller “Carnage and Culture: Landmark Battles in the Rise of Western Power,” and his most recent book is “A War Like No Other: How the Athenians and Spartans Fought the Peloponnesian War.”

Hanson earned his doctorate in classics from Stanford University. He was awarded a National Humanities Medal by President Bush in 2007.

The USA Hellenic Studies Endowment is supported by the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, known as AHEPA, which promotes Greek-Americans, Greek culture, U.S. and Canadian relations with Greece, and the rights of minority Americans.
